So my comp is pretty screwed up and I don't know why. This is basically a summary of things that have been happening so hopefully one of you can help...
Whenever I play games..after a few minutes my screen gets all messed up...I see blue and pink dots and lines and stuff and my comp usually locks up and freezes and it says how a display driver has stopped working properly. Also after this when I try to boot up my comp again it won't boot up and just keeps beeping until I turn the power off. Also sometimes when it does boot up my monitor recieves no signal.
I am not sure what the issue is or could be...my assumption is that it is my graphics card because after looking at it...the fan on my card does not spin and seems to me like its overheating which could be causing the problem, however I don't want to go buy a new card if that is not the case.
I understand this is a lot and probably hard to follow but I really need help because this is annoying the hell out of me :(

The other day rookie was explaining to me that both his 6100 and 8500 drivers seemed to be installed on his compy. I am betting this has something to do with his issue. I told him to uninstall both, disable on board gfx in the bios then restart again and install the new 8500 drivers.
To reformat you gotta backup all your info you want saved then pop in that trusty xp disk and restart your compy. Then you can pretty much follow your nose. This will reinstall windows and all the info you didnt backup will be gone.

Driver Cleaner will get rid of your old drivers. I would do that first.
Second I would remove the gfx and take a can of compressed air to the fan and other areas. Might as well do the whole comp while you're at it.
Next I would try a different card, one that is known to work.
Next I would re-install, and repeat the above steps.
Then out comes the hammer.

Almost sounds like heat, my 7800GT was doing that when the fan started dying
If you really think its heat, buy a new heatsink and fan for it. Also depending on the card manufacturer they might send you a free replacement fan

Also boot your comp up without the cover on to verify that all fans are spinning.

if its ATI drivers, old drivers defenetly need to be removed. i use to have all kinds of crashes and lock ups with an ati card because of drivers. i switched to nVidia and havnt had any problems sense. if its not the drivers, then the card could be shot. i dont think re formatting would help. most hardware failures will cause havoc on your machine, so deffenetly trya different card before OS'ing that bitch. if the fan isnt spinning,,,, thats a sign right there that its time for an upgrade.

ok, that sounds like artifacts from your gfx card.
Basically (if im right), your gfx card is crashing, and while its doing so, is sending output to stdio - your screen. Unfortunately, everything it sends is garbage and then kaboom whole thing crashes.
If you dont have another gfx card you can swap to determine if its that, either bring your gfx to a friends place and load it there, or try your onboard video.
Both of those things are ways to determine 100% if its the gfx or something else thats causing the problem.

psu is your power supply unit.. basically i think your computer might be starving for power because you might not have a big enough psu to handle your power load.

i never used the power supply that came with my card...but why wou;d my psu act up now..and how do i fix it?

your psu doesnt come with your card.
Some of them come with cases, some dont. If you've been experiencing problems with your card, and its one of the new power hungry ones, it could be your psu. Check your cards psu requirements, then find out your psu info, and check wtf is going on.
For example, the 8800 series require xx amount of amps on the 12 volt rail (depending on which model you have), and if you dont have the required amperage, it will not work right.

this problem just started like 5 days ago and i have had my card and comp for a year
Have you tried re-seating your card yet? Sometimes dust can get into the electrical pathways and cause problems, just pull it out, dust out the slot and slap it back in.

i blew on the slot...what else should i use?
Compressed air would be preferable but blowing should be fine. I had the same problem with my old 9700 Pro going batshit, but re-seating it fixed it.

You have 2 problems!
1. You have an 8500.
2. Your psu's power is way too low.
You should be good once you buy that power supply and gfx card.

585 Watts for $30 from some company no ones ever heard of? dont be suprised when that psu is dead in less than a month and doesnt give nearly the output it advertises. also, why not spend an extra 10 or 20 dollars and go for the g92?
