Public Server + CAL maps.

I've seen some public servers who have CAL maps automatically download to those connected, but for some reason our public server requires you to already have the map downloaded and put into the map folders already. We we're wondering if anyone might be able to give us a helping hand. Downloads are enabled, we've been able to have custom maps sent out.

I have the same problem with ours but it's with sounds, not maps.

OWS Server two runs only CAL maps on the cycle.
We have had a few problems with the voting selection and RTV abilities but I haven't seen any problems with downloading the maps.

Draven_Blade should know more about it since he does have the ability to add maps and whatnot to our servers.

There isn't anything special about the CAL maps that I know of. They're just custom map files like any other that you'd find online.

In my experience if you get an error when people are joining your server and don't have the map the regular map/sound download shit doesn't usually work. Only thing that usually does work is setting up a redirect with
sv_downloadurl "http://www.blah.com/redirect/dod"

then in the /redirect/dod folder you should have the folder structure just like whats in your dod folder on your computer. So inside that folder do maps, materials, resource, scripts, sounds. Then inside those folders bz2 the files indiviually and upload them to the folder. www.excal.net/redirect/dod is an example (please don't use my bandwidth or I'll kill you lol no seriously I will). That is the only way I can usually ever get downloading the maps/sounds to work besides the server doing it. If this isn't your problem then blah there is a nice tutorial for someone who needs it I'm kinda tired and didn't really read your post. :D

ok, excal. i did that exact same thing but the only problem is the sounds still do not download by themselves, even after redirecting.
