A remake of the stock DOD 1.3 map chemille, dod_coire_rc3 will be the kick off map in CAL's start of Season 10.
Why this shitty map first? Well we have our very own CAL league to thank for that as they stated: “We just wanted to get it over with.”
This map is very unique and stands out above other maps not for just being a pain in the ass to play, but being the only map with no double captures, 4 flags, and two major routes that further contribute to the uncreative attributes of this map. Coire is hated by many, liked by few, but why do some find it easier than others? We all know any idiot (such as Shawn “Spy” Lee) can go run up and touch a flag - that’s the easy part, it’s getting there that can be a nightmare. This map is known to have campers galore and if you don’t check your corners - you’re fucked.
What are those major routes? Well lets get a closer look:
The Underpass: Predominately controlled by heavies; it’s located in a more lax sector of the map. Some heavies would argue that the underpass is a “game of hide and seek” and ultimately controlled by how well the factory team is playing…others would just say they “own” and it “doesn’t matter because they are carrying the team anyways.”
Our expert heavy; Josh “thejw0rd” Schild states that there is a very unique way the underpass is played:
“On axis, hold puddle until allies get bored and try to push, then you kill both, take the flag, and push up, playing gay according to how your team is doing at factory, if they're pushing, you push, if they're getting killed, camp corners.”
“On allies, prone somewhere at underpass until axis gets bored and tries to push, then, either kill them, or hide in the gay house and let them run passed and kill them in the back”
The Factory: Described as a constant state of chaos, the people assigned to the factory never get a break from this action-packed square. Full of snipers, grenades, riflemen, assaults, and on occasion the flanking heavy, the factory truly is a place of teamwork; any lacking of this along with an aggressive team may be the deciding factor of leaving the map with a W or an L.
We have Nathan “Whitetail” Ganter to provide us with a sniper's opinion on the factory:
“It is so easy to snipe. They [the other team] only have like two places to come from, so it is easy to read where they are going to be.”
**Note: Most snipers agree that it’s a shitty map to snipe, but it really depends on your play style.**
--------------------
The major objectives by each class are as follows:
Heavy: Camp in corners and houses, waiting for the enemy push at the underpass. Control it.
Rifle: The play maker, ultimately having the balls to make the first move only to be owned by the above..or the below.
Assault: Purely spray, camp, and pray…that you don’t get called a pussy for using it. They are very versatile yet selective when choosing these spots of ownage.
Sniper: Be gay and peek, let your team move forward and do the work for you, hold the factory. If you lose it, you’re to blame.
Machine Gun: Post up at your spawn and hold it if they are down to your first flag or choose the gayest spot at underpass/puddle and hold. Primary objective: To piss the opposing team off.

Critics say:
“It can be a fun map to play but it can also be a really gay map to play depending on the team, some teams just prone in random spots and make it really boring.” - mNm eagleeyes
“It’s a gaybar.” - Schetter|TGBF.tv
“Has the possibility of being extremely fast paced, or slowed to a crawl, depending on how a team likes to play the underpass area.” - xyretire
“Shits intense.” - cube-n
“A five-star rating!” - No One
“It’s as ugly and gloomy looking as it is bad.” - cypher
“Fast paced map” - PedrosSsSSsssSssSssssSSss
--------------------
In conclusion, coire is a map most CAL players dread playing, and will never agree with, with the constant wonder of why this map was ever put into CAL's map rotation. A map where teamwork is crucial and being gay is a way to victory. An if-you-want-to-live-you-better-check-those-corners kind of map where distance doesn’t exist and being close is the enemy. It takes you out of the norms of other maps and puts you in a setting where ninjas are easily possible and frustration is expected to happen (hopefully teams won’t break up because of it).
I would just like to say good luck to all the teams in Season 10 and enjoy coire being the first map of the season because let’s face it we just want to get it over with… and remember: This map will NOT determine how well your team does the rest of the season.
